And The Winner Is...

Congratulations to Fawn Davis and Andy Turner, our Wedding Sweepstakes Winners! The lucky lovebirds are the recipient of $10,000 in free local and organic catering. We can’t wait to serve their wedding meal at Harriet Island in the summer.

Meet The Couple:

Andy enlisted the assistance of a dolphin to make his proposal to Fawn unforgettable.

Andy enlisted the assistance of a dolphin to make his proposal to Fawn unforgettable.

Fawn and Andy met ten years ago at while working at a grocery store. The stock boy locked eyes with the girl at the deli counter and the rest is history.

Turner popped the question in a most unique fashion with the help of Fawn’s favorite animal. While swimming with the dolphins on vacation in Florida, one of the dolphins came up to Davis carrying a buoy with “Will You Marry Me” inscribed on the side. And, of course, she said yes!

In keeping with the oceanic theme of their engagement, the couple is planning a nautical nuptial in July of 2015 at the Clarence W. Wigington Pavillion on Harriet Island.

Everyone deserves a special meal on their wedding day, and we are very excited to serve local, organic and from-scratch fare to the guests at their upcoming wedding.

Cheers To The Holidays

Add extra cheer to your holiday party - book a local taproom!

Add extra cheer to your holiday party - book a local taproom!

The Twin Cities taproom boom of late has provided an abundance of hangouts filled with great atmosphere and even better craft beers. Taprooms also make a perfect venue for festive holiday celebrations.

Recently we've partnered with a few local breweries to provide catering for private events. We especially love Indeed Brewing and the newly opened LynLake Brewery. Both breweries offer spacious, warm taprooms with plenty of craft beers to please your crew.

Here's why taprooms should be top on your list for your upcoming holiday party:

Decor: Exposed brick, decorative tap handles over a welcoming bar and coppery tanks that catch the industrial lighting give off a lively warehouse vibe. Minimal decorations are all you'll need to customize the aesthetically pleasing space.

Entertainment: Breweries usually have audio/visual capabilities and wireless internet available. Get creative! Create a custom playlist or screen a holiday movie. Boost the entertainment value of your event with a private brewery tour

Budget Friendly: Taproom rental fees are relatively inexpensive which means you won't blow your event budget on venue costs. Put the savings toward more important things like extra appetizers and party favors.

Bar: That one's pretty obvious.

Food: Most breweries allow and encourage bringing in outside food. That's where we come in! Whether you're looking for a selection of festive appetizers or a full-on holiday feast, our holiday menu has something for you. Did we mention it pairs well with beer?

LynLake Brewery in Uptown, Minneapolis features high ceilings, graffiti-like art, and a large taproom that accommodates up to 130 guests.

Nate and Lauren - A Sweet Reception at Silverwood Park

Nate and Lauren's First Dance at Silverwood Park's Great Hall

Nate and Lauren like to keep it casual, and that's exactly what they did for their simple September wedding at Silverwood Park.

The couple were wed in an evening ceremony followed by a reception of light snacks and a smorgasbord of delectable dessert bites for their guests. We served soft pretzel bites, mini whoopie pies, cream puffs, dark chocolate brownie bites, apple pie bars, and even a small strawberry vanilla wedding cake for the happy couple!

The bride and groom selected Silverwood Park, one of Three Rivers Park District's wedding venues, for a multitude of reasons. "We chose Silverwood Park because it had the right balance of outdoorsy feel but was clean and nice. We also really appreciated Silverwood Park's commitment to the environment and the ability to compost and recycle for our special day, " said Lauren.

Silverwood Park's Great Hall has so much natural beauty that Nate and Lauren only needed simple decorations and accents of color to create their perfect reception space.  The couple utilize the gorgeous grounds for their outdoor ceremony and the patio offered extra space for reception guests to enjoy.

Go Green for Graduation

Make your graduate’s future just a bit brighter by throwing an eco-friendly party.  With some simple adjustments (and a delicious catered meal), your grad’s big day can be environmentally responsible yet beautiful and fun! Here are a few tips for a green graduation:

Digitize Your Invites: You’ve fully embraced the modern age of technology. It’s time your invitations did too! Go paperless with eCards and iPhone friendly invites, or create an event page on Facebook.

D-eco-rations:

Use wild flowers for decoration and reusable table-ware to reduce waste.

Use wild flowers for decoration and reusable table-ware to reduce waste.

  • Bring some life to the party with locally sourced/organic wild flowers as table centerpieces and decorations. Try Foxglove Studios in St. Paul, where owner Christine sources locally cultivated floral elements and wild flowers from growers who don't use pesticides.
  • Repurpose old glass vases into drinking pitchers. Fill with water and lemon wedges as a great bottled water alternative, or show off your colorful sangria.
  • Cloth napkins instantly elevate any party. Find bandanas matching your graduate’s school colors.
  • Choose home-made banners instead of balloons, which contribute to unnecessary party waste and scare your guests when they pop unexpectedly.
  • Make streamers out of household items like old magazines and newspapers (great for future journalists) or paper and plastic bags.
commonrootsgarden

Plant “Seeds of Encouragement”:  Put out a small bed of soil or some flower pots and an assortment of your favorite herbs, flowers or veggies. Have your guests write notes of encouragement or advice on garden markers and place them next to the seeds they plant. It’s like having someone else do your gardening for you!

Waste Away: Parties can be a huge source of unnecessary  waste. Use recycled, biodegradable service-ware and trash bags instead of the alternative plastic options. Clearly mark your biodegradable trash and recycling bin and wrangle a neighbor or two to proactively collect used plates and stray soda cans for proper disposal.

Serve Local, Organic and Most Importantly Good Food: Most grocers have a wide range of organic products offered, sometimes supplied from local farms. Make it your goal to serve as much local and organic product as possible, or…

Have Common Roots Cater: You have enough to worry about on your grad’s big day. Let us help provide locally sourced, organic, made-from-scratch food that’s responsible and  delicious! We’ll provide biodegradable service-ware, take away your trash and even commercially compost it for you!

Check out our graduation party menu! We source our ingredients locally whenever possible and provide options ranging from small platters to full service catering. Delivery and pick-up options are available as well. Start an inquiry to get in touch with a catering planner or call (612) 353-4261.

Aidan & Drew

We had a great time catering Aidan & Drew’s Reception in June at Architectural Antiques.  Located in NE Minneapolis, this unique store is full of treasures and rare finds for your guests to marvel over.

With fun hors d’oevres including roast beef sliders, roasted potato cups, chicken gougeres and strawberry shortcake bites - this fun couple was able to keep the party moving.

Guests were encouraged to mix and mingle and the food was cleverly incorporated into the scene, illuminated by the twinkling lights of chandeliers overhead.

If you are looking for a unique and fun location, we suggest Architectural Antiques.

Congrats Aidan & Drew!
