2011 - The Year In Numbers

Every year, we crunch the numbers and report on our contribution to the vibrant local food scene in Minnesota.   We counted invoices, mapped our producers and weighed our impact.  See all the details in our 2011 Year in Numbers report below. As we enter our 5th year in business in 2012, we are so grateful to our customers that care about good food with character. American Swedish Institute - Turnblad Mansion RE-OPENS

On Nov. 19th our friends at the American Swedish Institute re-opened their historic Turnblad Mansion in-style - with a holiday event featuring museum tours, music, arts & crafts, and of course swedish food (by Common Roots).

For the special day, we constructed a simple swedish menu of - meatball sandwiches, pear & cheese sandwiches, mashed potatoes, potato-leek soup, cardamom bread, and cinnamon rolls.

The Turnblad Mansion is decorated for the holidays - open for visitors and event bookings

Construction on the new Nelson Cultural Center will continue through Spring 2012.

Holiday Season Menu

Relax this holiday season – we have you covered with delicious, locally-sourced dining options for your gatherings great and small.

July 24th, 2011 - Silverwood Park

Lynn + Patrick

Lynn and Patrick wanted their wedding to be 'kitchy,' fun & fresh - with a late 1950s-early 1960s 'rat pack' theme. 

Tailored to their vision, we created a menu that our grandmothers would have been proud of.

Guests, dressed in vintage garb, had a great time nibbling on:

polynesian meatballs - with free-range turkey and pineapple

rumaki - with grass-fed beef and organic herbed cream cheese

pinwheels - puff pastry wrapped caramelized onions and blue cheese

cheese + crackers - herbed chevre, smoked gouda-pecan, and smoked salmon & dill cheese balls, with house-made crackers

skewers - caprese, grass-fed beef kebabs, and free-range chicken satay

fresh fruit display - organic fruit, served in watermelon 'boat'

mini cupcakes - house-made raspberry-vanilla butter-cream, german chocolate, coconut & chocolate-cherry flavors

August 20th, 2011 - Gale Woods Farm

Katie + Justin

This charming couple held their August wedding & reception at Gale Woods Farm, overlooking beautiful Waletail Lake in Minnetrista.  A real working farm, Gale Woods is a fun & unique place to host a special event.

Katie + Justin planned their event with their guests needs in mind.  By butler passing hors d'oeuvres & cocktails - their guests were free to mingle and move around, allowing them to enjoy their time 'down on the farm'.

The event was casual, but elegant - with a 'classic' grilling menu featuring and abundance of georgeous local & organic ingredients. 

Guests enjoyed -- grilled free-range chicken breast, grass-fed flank steak, herb-roasted baby red potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, romaine salad & house-baked sourdough rolls w/ hope creamery butter.

To finish the meal off, we arranged a colorful display of of house-made mini desserts.  With an assortment of dark chocolate cupcakes, salted caramel cheesecake bites, fresh fruit tartlets, chocolate-dipped strawberries, mini salted chocolate chip cookies, and macaroon bites - there was something for everybody!

9/25 Wedding Fair - Three Rivers Park District

Three Rivers Park District is hosting their annual Wedding Fair September 25th, 2011 from 12-4pm at Silverwood Park. 

We will be serving delicious grilled grass-fed beef sliders, smoked trout endive cups and mint-date endive cups.

Silverwood Park, in Saint Anthony, MN is nestled on the shores of Silver lake and surrounded by mature woods and restored prairie.  In harmony with the environment, this venue features commercial composting - allowing all their events to be waste-free.

June 24th, 2011 - Elm Creek Chalet

Cara + Gabe

This gorgeous couple's vision was clear from the get-go.  By incorporating blue & red into their design, mason jar water glasses, and traditional Norwegian Kransekake for dessert - they personalized their event at Elm Creek Chalet to their Scandinavian roots, blended with a little country casual.

For this laid-back couple quality of food was also very important.  They decided on a menu filled with familiar options, each with their own unique 'twist'.

with roasted mushroom, arugula puree, and herb chevre

with Native Harvest wild rice, provolone, and greens on a house-made bolillo roll

with sweet and gold potatoes, red onion, arugula, apple, cilantro, and garam masala-spiced aioli

seasoned with lemon and rosemary
